I received a phone call one afternoon; “Is this Matt?”, a real soft, almost giggly voice asked on the other end of the line. It was Caroline, a 15 year old girl who told me that she was in an assembly that I had spoken to a few weeks prior at her school. Now she had an idea for her upcoming 16th birthday party. “You know”, she says, “I have everything I really need. And, I’ve been thinking about my 16th birthday for awhile and I want to do something different than the big party that I’ve had in my mind. I’m thinking about doing a party that would help others, like through the Hydrate Hope project”. And, that’s exactly what she followed through on.
Caroline threw a pool party at her house, invited her friends to come, but instead of bringing gifts for her, she asked for donations to I Am Change for Hydrate Hope. She raised $700 that night from her teenage friends. Then we had a opportunity to leverage that $700 in a donor match and turn it in to $1,400. That’s incredible!!! What that means is that clean water has now been made a reality for people in the developing world because a 16 year old, All-American girl decided she wanted to make an impact. Wow!!! That’s really what I Am Change is all about: everyday people, changing the world. It’s not just rock stars, movie stars and billionaires who are making things happen; it’s real, authentic, compassionate people….like Caroline.
Matt,
This is what it’s all about! Not they are change but I AM! Keep up the good work and way to go Caroline!
LOVE working together with you to take water to thousands!
God bless,
Jim
