The humanitarian sector in Nigeria has evolved over the years, making huge impact on citizens and improving societal well being, while also aiding the growth and development of the nation through the different social intervention schemes carried out by state and non-state actors. It is on record that the sector holds huge potential for socio-economic transformation, but the Nigerian government before now has not been able to harness the sectoral opportunities due to poor coordi-nation and lack of better management approach.
However, the decision by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration setting up the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development on Wednesday August 21st, 2019 by an Executive pronouncement is poised to change the fortune of the humanitarian sector in Nigeria.
